Susquehanna Bluebells – 4/12/25

Today’s DSB “Wandervoegel” hike was done in conjunction with the “Holy Hikers” of St Paul’s Lutheran Church and took place along the Susquehanna River on the “Lower Susquehanna Heritage Greenways Trail”. We could not start at Fisherman’s Park  below the Conowingo Dam as originally intended because part of the trail “head” was closed due to an “avian bird flu” outbreak. So instead we shuttled our way to the Deer Creek Trestle Bridge parking area in Susquehanna State Park and hiked north to the dam. Even though it was a bit cold when we started, the flora and fauna were spectacular. The main reason for hiking this area yearly is to admire Virginia Bluebells and see Bald Eagles and there were plenty of both as well as numerous other plants and animals. 6 mile round-trip hike. After the hike, a couple of us headed to the Hopkins Farm Brewery for refreshments … Great beer and food … just wish the weather would have been a bit nicer. Otherwise everything was perfect and we’ll be back.
